Guys,
The calculations below is not to scare anyone but it may very well a reality. Based on the assumptions below, some people may have to wait up to 20 months to get a EAD card: Ouch!
A Total I-485 Applicants: 750000 Applicants
B Each EAD processing time: 5 Minutes
C Total processing hrs: 62500 Hours
(Calculations: AxB/60)
D Daily productive Hours: 5 Hours
(It is a government body!)
E Total Man Days (Business Days): 12500 Man Days
(Calculations: C/D)
F EAD Workforce: 30 People
G Total Business Days: 417 Days
(Calculations: E/F)
H Average Business Days in a month: 21 Days
I Total Clearing Time : 20 Months
(Calculations: G/I)
So what are trying to prove ? Generally i dont respond but this just shows that you have a lot of time. Why dampen people's spirits by such post or why try to say that whatever IV has done is a waste. That is what i get from what you have posted. If you are cynical, keep it to your own self, dont start such negative threads. Dont know you and this is not a personal attack but think twice before you create such posts, because they are disheartening for many (including me) who are so frustrated that they can believe any thing negative. Chill out and let us enjoy the moment why we have it, if things change over the period, we are fighters, we will survive but dont add to our problems by your predictions and logic (which might be right to start with but do we tell cancer patients that they are going to die on such and such date).

I am very junior member on IV forums and have listened to all the experts and senior members on IV from time to time. Very solid ideas and very intelligent people! Although, I am not too familiar with the intricacies of what DOS said or what USCIS said; what I know is that there are many thousands of us who are here in a limbo for many many years. I think we have been "super- nice" to USCIS and Congress in the way we have approached them for our problems and rightly so - thats just us!
We have done our best educate them via lobbying efforts etc but wouldnt you agree that its time be a little more "assertive' now. Seriously, we dont know what the bigger picture is here. Year after Year, Month after month nothing moves with USCIS. Same old grim Visa Bulletin. I had written elsewhere that I dont even remember what my dates are anymore! Being in a western country or anywhere else in the world for 10-12 years is a long time. The culture, the enviroment and the system grows on you. Most of us left from India or elsewhere, when we were in our mid 20s . As young adults most of were explorers - soaking information, knowledge, new skills etc as we embarked on our journey to settle down in a foreign country. I think its fair to say that most of us have actually acquired our adult wisdom here. What I am getting to, is that when people talk about packing their bags and going back home - it may only be easier said than done!
I am not an expert at this but I believe we may have to come together again and we will need more visibility - maybe a six month long agressive assertive campaign - letters, flowers, rally and more all together so that we can catch congress' attention. It seems like legislation is the only way out here. Again, please pardon my inability to comprehend issues correctly, if I am wrong in saying so, but if we continue to rely on visa bulletins and USCIS; nothing is going to happen. All I can say is that whatever leaders and intellects at IV decide, I am here in anyway you all need me to help! Please feel free to ask for help at jaisinghaII@gmail.com. We can do all we want, but why should any one in congress bother about us. Its same like India, if you cant vote, you have no influence over the legislature. Congress is responsible for the welfare of US citizens, guest workers are not their concern. Blunt but true.

why do they even have to locate old files physically?
All the data about case file number (LINXXX, SRCXX, etc), status and the associated priority date is in a single/distributed database (else we would not be able to check our status online )
WHY CAN'T USCIS NOT RUN A QUERY AGAINST THIS DATBASE....?
Easier said than done - we have no clue what they do - what pattern they follow - but what has happened clearly suggests that there are many disconnects and there are always excuses.
The flood of approvals that come during end of fiscal year is just to avoid issues with questions raised for inefficiency

People, since Aman and lets not forget other core members also (who I am sure have racked up a lot of out of pocket cost) we as a community should gather funds for administrative cost also. GC is not just Aman's/ pappu/logiclife and others core member's dream...its OUR dream, and its not fair that in spite of knowing the time and money spent by the core members we donot share the burden.
So here is what I am thinking, there are 21000+ members of which I think 10,000 can be considered the real people (I am sure there are more..but a real conservative estimate) if we all pitch in $10 for administrative cost I think it would not put any dent in our pockets and this collective effort would not create a financial burden on any of the core members.
Any thoughts!
